iPhone 3G JailBreak - PwnageTool 2.0 [OSX]

Small walkthrough by Cimkeri:
I thought it will be good to write a brief explanation for the people who use the PwnageTool for the first time like me :) Yes I did it and unlock works for me. I also checked the exchange support, youtube, appstore… All works fine

Here are the steps I took;

1. I upgraded to Itunes 7.7
2. Connected my iphone. It deteced the iphone and asked for an upgrade, I just cliked download only. This is how I got the original firmware form apple :)Then disconnected iphone just after the download started.
3. Before opening the pwnagetool I put my iphone in dfu mode. I tried at least 4 times to do that. The trick was to hold down the power and home botton wait until it restarts. Then pluck it into the dock wait for ten seconds during the apple logo and then release it . It is totally black but itunes recognized it as in recovery. This is the dfu we need.
4. I did not choose the expert mode. Chosed iphone 1g . It had found the restore firmware that itunes had already downloaded. Asked me for the bootloaders. I browsed both of them respectively and then it created the custom ipws.
5.Clicked next and it recognized the dfu but asked for shutdown. I had problem here before, It said that it can not put the device in dfu mode. This time it detected and asked for a shutdown. I just pressed both power and home button until it restarted. Then watch for the screen. It tells you when to release the power button and when to release home button. Then it was ok. My iphone was ready to be restored with the custom ipws. The tool gave a message everything ok and i must just close pwnagetool and use itunes.

6. I didn’t do anything to iphone just left it where it was in dfu mode. Itunes had already gave the message that it needs to restore my iphone. I just said ok. The restore screen was in front of me. Just pressed alt button on the keyboard and while pressing it i clicked restore, and I showed itunes gently my custom ipws. It restored it successfully.

7. After that the phone rebooted, bootneutral was opened automatically , first it neutral the boot and then flashed the baseband. All was automatic. Then after the last reboot, there it was jailbroken and unlocked with all features working.

How to send free email SMS and get mobile alerts?

While searching for sending free SMS, I found how to send email to SMS on your mobile phone. It describes how an email can be sent as SMS to your mobile phone (works on selected operators only). But it has a limitation i.e it truncates long mail and approx only 160 characters is sent as SMS. I have confirmed that Airtel Karnataka is working fine.
Extending this idea following things can be done with it :-

Auto forwarding mails to mobile phone as SMS:- In Gmail, go to settings -> Forwarding and POP and set your messages to forward at the mobile-number-cum-email. But, currently this is not working. If it works, then selected mails can also be forwarded by creating filters. I have reported this issue to Gmail help and support and hope they resolve it soon.
Using your mobile number as another email address to 'send mail from' in Gmail:- Go to settings -> Accounts and set the mobile-number-cum-email as 'Add another email address' under 'Send mail as'. It will send a verification code on your mobile. After verifying the email address you can select this email address as 'send email from' so that you get its reply as SMS alert.
Orkut SMS alerts:- Currently Orkut SMS alert is available in Brazil only. On changing the primary email address to your mobile-number-cum-email in Orkut it sends a link and verification code which is received as truncated message due to limitation. If Orkut changes the format of verification mail by sending the verification code (say XXXX) first and then the link, then it can be verified by clicking the link, http://www.orkut.com/EditEmailConfirm.aspx?vc=XXXX which means, you can receive SMS alert when someone leaves a scrap on your scrapbook. I have reported this issue to Orkut help and support and hope they consider it.
Google Alerts:- Similarly, if the format of verification mail is changed while subscribing for Google Alerts, it would be quite handy to receive latest updates on a topic of your choice directly to your mobile.
Blogger comment Notification:- In blogger, go to settings-> comments and set your mobile-number-cum-email as 'Comment Notification Address'. Thus, it notifies on your mobile when someone leaves a comment on your blog. Thankfully, it does not requires any verification code.
Let others send you SMS without knowing your mobile number:- There are many sites that send SMS to mobile phones free. But, they require to disclose your mobile number to do so. Alternatively, you can sign up at jotforms using your mobile-number-cum-email, create a form and place it on your web page. Do not forget to set 'E-mail ' to 'yes' under form properties. Now anyone can send you an SMS without knowing your mobile number. A demo SMS form can be seen on the sidebar.
Sending SMS using PL/SQL:- This Oracle forum post describes how to send SMS using PL/SQL. I have not verified it, but if it is working then powerful web based applications can be created that can send SMS to desired mobile number.

There may be many other possibilities with mobile-number-cum-email, tell me what you can do with yours?

Few days back, my brother... who wants to learn C programming, asked me to send Turbo C++ compiler by mail. Immediately I said "NO! Do not use Turbo C++ compiler". He asked for the reason and I said I will tell you later. So here are some of the reasons for the same:-

1. Turbo C++ compiler is not ANSI standard compliant. It has many non standard header files:

e.g. conio.h - basically people use it for clrscr() i.e. clearing the screen
graphics.h - Even it is not a standard header file. But in school, colleges still computer graphics programming is taught under Turbo C/C++ compiler…me too a victim.
Now you can ask if graphics.h is not standard then how to do graphics programming? So the answer is go for openGL, DirectX .etc. programming.

2. It has lots of bug one e.g. consider the code

for(;0;)
printf("hello");

This prints hello once in Turbo C++ v3.0 compiler even though the condition is false. The same code in gcc does not give any output. Updated: check this out.

3. You might have noticed that working on Turbo C++ compiler shows 100% CPU usage in task manager. Even the processor gets heated and your system can hang up. This is because it is a 1989 based 16-bit compiler and does not comply with latest processors.

Now, you can ask...which compiler to choose then?

So in my opinion, use GCC...available in Linux and for Windows use the Dev C++ compiler. I found it very lightweight on system performance.

People use Turbo C++ compiler coz it’s easily available...and due to the help it contains regarding syntax .etc. But the biggest problem is the book we read before going for actual programming. Most of us read Yashwant Kanetkar books. Sorry if I am offending anyone but...do not read Yashwant Kanetkar books. Some of the reasons are -

1. Those books have been written keeping in mind Turbo C/C++ compiler only. So, they do not teach us c language properly.

2. You have to unlearn many things. e.g.

Has anyone ever asked you questions like:-

int x=5;
y=x++ + ++x + x++;
What is the value of y?
(Yashwant kanetkar's Exploring C contains lot of these types of questions)

or

Swap two variables without using a third variable in one line?
You might have replied a=a+b-(b=a);
or may be some other way.

For your kind information answer to both of them is "Undefined behavior".

Upon thinking the reasons for reading Kanetkar books I found that-

1. These books are easily available even at a second hand book stall. So, definitely cost matters.

2. In schools/colleges, teachers ask to follow these books.

3. Mass following the same path like sheep and getting so called good jobs. Then why not me? Even lot of interviewers ask these types of questions.

Now...which book to follow then? So, in my opinion, no book is best...you have to refer different books for different topics... and yes google, wikipedia etc. can lead to some good resources.

Well...you might be thinking why I am writing about all these things here. So in reply, I would like to repeat the famous quote from movie AntiTRUST - Human knowledge belongs to the world.

First Impression by Sunny
Amidst the battle of the giants, Bajaj, Yamaha and Honda lurks this compact yet dynamic and powerful predator - TVS. I had always liked the Apache advertising campaigns, they were directed towards the youth. In fact this is when me and most of us stood up and noticed a company called TVS. The Apache was its trump card. Thanks to TVS, we managed to get hold of the Apache RTR Fi 160. Those two additional acronyms do sound impressive, and they are. RTR(Racing throttle response) and Fi (Fuel Injection) give it a purposeful name.

The BIKE that we had got was an Orange colored one. Strange color you may say, but not stranger than a certain BIKE lime green, eh?

My first impression of the Glossary Term: Bike

The sky again was, not surprisingly, painted with dark clouds and the time was 6.15PM. The light was pathetic and the sun was about to go down taking away all the chances of any photoshoot. Without wasting anytime I sat on the bike, inserted the key and turned it on. The response was a sweet whirr of the FI self test and the ultra cool dials lit up. I was sold to the console assembly and the blue lit LCD.

RTR-Racing Throttle Response,when TVS came with its newer variant of Apache named Apache RTR in 2007 it surprised many because we haven’t heard any product being named like this before. Surely TVS which had a vast and enormously successful racing program discussed about it before coming with this name.

A short first ride on the RTR back in 2007 made it clear why this is named RTR. It not only comes equipped with sporty looks and ergonomics, hi-spec digital clock, petal disc at the front and racing stripes but it also performed like a small crotch rocket coming straight from the track. Back in current world (2008) the newer variant of RTR comes with a fuel injection. Read on…

The first thing that strikes you is the power delivery which is now much more crisp and smooth due to the addition of fuel injection. Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India today unveiled the Honda CBF Stunner in New Delhi.

The 125cc Honda Stunner produces 11bhp at 8000rpm and 11nm of torque at 6500rpm(POWER LESS THAN THAT OF TVS FLAME,IN POWER SEGMENT TVS STILL RULES). Honda claims the Stunner can achieve 60kmph from standstill in 5.2 seconds, which ought to make the Stunner one of the fastest 125cc motorcycles in India, if not the fastest.

Loaded with goodies like front and rear tubeless tyres, alloys, half fairing and stepped up seat, the CBF Stunner is the most beautiful and loaded 125cc motorcycle in India.

However all this comes at a price, the basic kick start drum brake version of Honda CBF Stunner would Rs. 47,070, while the self start drum brake version costs Rs. 49,820, while the top of the line disc brake version (with self start) would set you back by Rs. 51,655 (prices ex. showroom Delhi).

Synopysis
Everything happens in one day. As the protagonist alights from his flight in India, he is taken for a ride, literally. For the first few minutes, as things happen in a flurry, your heart races anticipating the turn of events. Eventually, you settle to an engrossing fare with an unusual end. The end, as the beginning, raises many questions. About how unsuspecting Muslims are used by those in power to spread terror. Dr Aamir Ali (Rajeev Khandelwal) is one such unsuspecting Muslim who is dragged to the vortex of terrorism. His only crime; that of being a Muslim. But does he succumb to the terror tactics or does he bow down before God? Does he do what is asked of him, or does he sacrifice his life and is labeled a suicide bomber, for his family to bear the stigma? This film is for the discerning audience. It raises many questions in the mind of the viewer and leaves many questions unanswered. It's almost as if it's a film for the festival circuit. Rajeev Khandelwal as one who is caught between the devil and the deep sea is convincing in his performance. Dragged to the by-lanes of Mumbai, habituated by Muslims, he is given a taste of how his brethren are living. At least that is what is being drilled into his head by the one who is constantly feeding him information on Islam. Forced to follow orders on phone, Aamir is sent from one destination to another as his movements are tracked, until he is to do the final delivery of the red bag at Andheri station. The truth dawns on Aamir that the bag contains a bomb. What does he do here? Go on... watch this flick. What is really over-the-top is the precision of the terror network that track him down right from the time he exits the airport. A little hard to digest. Nevertheless an interesting film backed by tight editing, sound background score and a solid performance from Rajeev. This lad from television has a good future on the big screen

The buzz about Firefox these days might be focused on the impending Firefox 3, but the folks at Mozilla are already thinking beyond that browser--and beyond the PC. A blog post on Wednesday from Mozilla Labs' head of user experience, Aza Raskin, shows off a video of a conceptual Firefox Mobile.

Designed for touch-screen interfaces--not multitouch, like the iPhone--the mobile Firefox browser opens up to reveal a bookmarks list and a "plus" button to open a new window. The browser controls are located to the left of the window and are accessible by panning horizontally.

Firefox competes reasonably well with Microsoft's dominant Internet Explorer on PCs, but the battle lines are only now being drawn in the mobile device browser war. One notable power is the open-source Webkit browser engine, used in the iPhone's Safari browser and Google's forthcoming Android software.

We're driven by demand," Mike Schroepfer, Mozilla's vice president of engineering, said in a May interview when asked if he was interested in bringing Firefox to Android. "We've been concentrating on other platforms that don't have (a) browser or didn't have a good one."

The mobile Firefox is code-named "Fennec" after a small species of fox with unusually large ears. Ironically, the animal sometimes referred to as a "firefox," better known as a red panda, is more closely related to skunks and raccoons.

Maruti 800 gets LPG version

India Limited (MSIL) on Friday launched a liquified petroleum gas (LPG) variant of its entry-level offering, Maruti 800. The car will run both on LPG and petrol and attracts a price tag of Rs 2,05,682 for the standard version and Rs 2,26,177 for the AC version.

The Maruti 800 duo was economical, environment friendly and manufactured with factory-fitted kits, said Mayank Pareek, Executive Officer, Marketing and Sales, MSIL.

It works on a gas mixer system that results in optimum performance and superior emission, delivering a power of 35 bhp and a torque of 56 Nm. The LPG variant emits 10 per cent lower carbon dioxide than the petrol variant and has been designed in-house by a team of 24 engineers.

In its existing portfolio, Maruti already has Wagon R and Omni Cargo in LPG versions. The company has sold almost 125,000 cars that are powered by LPG and compressed natural gas. The LPG variants constitute around 23 per cent of national sales for the Wagon R and Omni.

"The success of these models is a clear reflection of customer preference for products that are safe, light on the pocket and environment friendly. We are sure that the Maruti 800 duo will find favour with customers as well," Pareek said

TVS 125cc Flame:

Out of the seven TVS launches, this is the hottest launch not only for the sake of name - the flame. This 125cc bike which replaces the 125cc victor, has already triggered fire between the India’s top two wheeler manufacturer. Bajaj Auto has decided to sue TVS Motor for infringement of its patented engine technology. Bajaj Auto claims that TVS has used its digital twin spark ignition technology (DTSi) in recently unveiled TVS’s 125cc bike Flame.

Design and features:

Flame sports a new design and embraces the contemporary black theme. Flame borrows the headlamp,front fender, attractive rear view mirrors, body coloured shock absorber springs and special engine cowl from its big brother apache. TVS says that the styling of the Flame is inspired by the Delta wing design found in the latest fighter jets. So, it has adopted a triangular (DeltaEdge) design theme to many of the Flame’s features.TVS 125cc Flame is packed with exciting features like attractive body graphics, alloy wheels, disc brake at the front, electric start and handle bar weights to control vibrations.

CC-VTi engine:

TVS which used VTi(Variable Timing Ignition) engine for its economic bike ‘centra’ now developed a more sophiscated engine for the new 125cc flame. 125cc Flame sports the india’s first three-valve CC VTi (controlled combustion variable timing intelligent) engine. The engine’s produces maximum power of 10.5 bhp at 8,250 rpm. Comparing the figures flame 125cc leads over the Honda shine, suzuki zeus, hero Honda splendour, hero honda Glamour but trails to yamaha gladiator and Bajaj discover 125cc atleast in the paper. TVS developed the new engine for the 125cc flame in collaboration of AVL of Austria. Similar to the Bajaj’s DTSi, flames CC-VTi engine hosts two spark plugs which are located at opposite ends of the combustion chamber. CC-VTi engine is breathing and expelling through 3 valves (first time a 125cc motorcycle featuring 3 valves). The engine features two different intake ports called swirl port and power port. The swirl port creates a swirl motion of the intake air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber, thereby leading to a more efficient burning of lean air-fuel mixture and helping improve the bike’s fuel efficiency. In the power throttle mode, the power port opens to allow a high flow rate of the air-fuel mixture to deliver high power.

* First time a 125cc bike features LCD digital speedometer. TVS 125cc flame feature an analogue speedometer but other gauges such odometer,digital clock, fuel gauge, mileage meter are embedded in the digital console. No rpm meter or tachometer for this 125cc flame.

* 125cc flame’s dual lens tailamp will loot the exclusivity from karizma owners.

* Though TVS says deltaedge headlamp is to provide more aerodynamic efficiency, the front cowl looks thinner which does not reflect bike’s chracters. Trouble for 150cc Hero Honda cbz xtreme and Honda’s unicorn owners too a 125cc bike features similar styled headlamp.

* 125cc Flame’s sporty deltaedge exhaust is not just styling element but also to deliver the smoothest of sounds,lowest emissions and excellent performance.

TVS FLAME RE-LAUNCHED WITH SINGLE SPARK PLUG

TVS Motor Company on Monday launched its controversial 125 cc motorcycle 'Flame', which has been accused by rival Bajaj Auto of infringing upon its patented technology, with a modified engine.

The company introduced the bike, at Rs 46,000 (ex-showroom across the country), with a single spark ignition engine based on Controlled Combustion Variable Timing Intelligent (CC-VTi) technology.

"TVS, in keeping with its tradition of breaking new ground in two-wheelers, is proud to have brought this world-class engine technology into India with the CCVTi engine. This engine has been developed and patented by AVL and licensed to TVS in India," said Mr.Venu Srinivasan, CMD of TVS, in a statement.

Earlier, TVS had planned to launch the vehicle with a twin spark engine, which Bajaj Auto had objected to. Subsequently, after legal wrangles, Madras High Court had stayed the Chennai-based company from producing and marketing of the motorcycle which uses the controversial technology.

TVS said its new 'Flame' uses a "universally accepted and traditionally proven" single spark plug ignition system.

Austria-based AVL is the world leader in Internal Combustion Engine technology and develops power train systems. It is a leading provider of technology to the global engine and automotive industry.

In March, TVS Motor expects to sell 15,000 units of Flame. Sales would rise month after month and reach 25,000 units a month by October, Mr Srinivasan said.

Talking to newspersons on the sidelines of the conference, officials of the company said that the current quarter may not be good, but said that next year would be a much better one, thanks mainly to the Flame.At a press conference here today, the company’s Chairman and Managing Director, Mr Venu Srinivasan, said that the company expects Flame to fetch sales of Rs 700 crore in 2008-09.

" BLACK & WHITE " MOVIE SYNOPSIS:

The film revolves around Numair Qazi [Anurag Sinha], who introduces himself as a victim of communal riots in Gujarat to the people around him. But the truth is that he is a suicide bomber commissioned by a Muslim fundamentalist group to detonate a bomb near Red Fort on 15th August.

In comes Rajan Mathur [Anil Kapoor] a Professor in Urdu literature. He resides in Chandni Chowk with his activist wife Roma [Shifaali Shah].

Numair somehow manages to take shelter in the Professor’s house and wins the trust and fondness of the couple. While helping Numair to get an entry pass for 15th August celebrations at Red Fort, Professor Mathur introduces him to the warm and loving people of Chandni Chowk.

Amidst all the tension, he is caught in an emotional dilemma whether to go ahead with his mission. Despite his deep-rooted fundamentalist beliefs, he sees this as one of the most colorful and loving areas. So what happens next? Will he go ahead with his mission or has there been a change in Numair’s views?

Race is a story of two brothers Ranvir Singh (Saif Ali Khan) and Rajeev Singh (Akshay Khanna) – one of them plays to win, while the other one plays to defeat. Set against the high-flying social fabric of modern South Africa, it is also about betrayal and greed, intrigue and revenge.

1) Hero Honda Hunk is available in four colours - panther black, fighter blue, red and silver. On the road Hunk comes at a price of Rs61,590.2) Hero Honda Hunk is powered by an 150cc Engine, delivering 14.4PS @ 8500 RPM of power and 12.80 N-m @ 6500 of torque. Advanced Tumble Flow Induction (ATFI) helps the Hunk to provide imporved torque and higher fuel efficiency. The engines breathes through a CV carburettor and the Ignition is guided by a microprocessor. The engine is teamed with a five-speed constant mesh gearbox(1-down 4-up). Hero Honda claims Hunk can hit 60 Kmph mark in 5 seconds.3) Hero Honda Hunk: Hunk is the first bike from Hero Honda to feature gas charged rear suspension(GRS-Gas Reservoir Suspension in Hero Honda’s term). The stepped seat offers lumbar support to the rider. Underneath the overhung rear fender is metal plates to prevent rattling.4) Though the Hunk’s design is largely a resemblance of TVS apache. Hunk’s chrome finished 3-Dimensional ” HUNK” Emblem, gold finished front forks, silver finished central section and muscular rear cowl adds extra charm to this muscle. A bulky-looking silver heat shield bolts atop the silencer. Hunk sports contemporary five-spoke alloy rims in matt black, a theme that continues to its engine cases, silencer as well as the chain shroud. Infact, matte black panels dominates the painted panels which makes Hunk more muscular.

5) Hero Honda Hunk shares the tubular, diamond frame type chassis of the CBZ Xtreme. The dimensions are also same as the CBZ X-Treme except for the Hunk is shorter by 50mm compared to the X-Treme. Though Hunk is shorter the deep knee recess, straight handlebar and the neatly placed foot pegs offers comfortable riding position. The muscle bike is slightly heavier than others, it weighs 145kg.

6) Hero Honda Hunk features bold, chrome rimmed analog instruments includes a red back speedometer, tachometer, fuel-gauge and trip facility complement the standard warning lamps.

7) Hero Honda Hunk features 240mm disc at the front and 130mm drum brake at the rear. The bike comes with a meaty puncture-resistant and wider rear tyre. Complementing the wider tyres are 18inch larger rims. The bulged rear cowl dominates the sharp small tail lamp. Both at the rear and the front Hero Honda uses diamond shaped clear lens indicators.

More information has come out on TVS apache RTR FI(Fuel Injection). The 159.7cc of apache RTR is equipped with Fuel Injection Technology. Apart from the new heart, apache also features disc brake in the rear to provide necessary control for apachians. TVS has made few vital changes in design department too. Apache RTR FI slim chain cover (open type) and Hunk(hero Honda’s 150cc) like muscular shrouds on both sides of the tank. These design addition has made the beast more masculine. New stickerings FI) on panels and on tank shrouds gives the necessary exclusiveness.

What’s new in styling?

TVS designers have sculpted not designed the Apache. No changes are made as far the front fairing, fuel tank, tail piece and chain cover is concerned. Yet the unchanged tank and tail piece will come in a superb yellow, red, matte grey, silver and black. Let’s see what’s new?

• new engine cowl
• A neat racing stripe runs all the way from the top of the tail lamp to the tip of the front fender and also on the tacho.
• Design upgrades on levers, pedals, grips, bar-end dampers, lights, dash.
• Hero Honda Xtreme type split grab rail
• Bajaj Pulsar type LCD speedometer
• Apart from the LCD speedo, the new dash includes two trip meter, clock, odometer and fuel gauge and an analog tachometer.
• Aircraft type fuel tank lid
• Leaf shaped rear view mirror
• LED tail lamp
• New aluminum foot pegs and aluminum levers

Not just new design here’s new heart too..

The new Apache RTR is powered by a 159.7cc engine which develops maximum power of 15.2bhp at 8500 rpm (1.3bhp less than Pulsar 180cc) and a peak torque of 13.1Nm at 6000 rpm (little greater than pulsar 150cc and Hero Honda CBZ Xtreme). The new engine is not just an overbore of the Apache’s 150cc engine. The engine’s stroke was cut down to 52.9 mm and then the bore grew to 62 mm. Sadly, notchy and much complained Apache gearbox has been retained.

TVS claims the new Apache 160cc RTR can make a top speed of 118kph and can reach 60kph in 4.8s and 100kph in 17.7s.

Changes in the chassis:

Wheelbase is increased to 1300mm from the current 1260mm to accommodate 40 mm longer rectangular swingarm. This is to increase the stability of the bike. The bike gains 2kg (yet lighter than Unicorn and CBZ Xtreme) and the suspension is retuned. But whether the new apache 160cc RTR will have the superb agility possessed by its sibling has to be tested. The two-way adjustable clip-on handlebars are really a nice offering. TVS also joins the India’s first tag, Apache 160cc RTR features 270mm petal disc brake at the front.

Technology at a glance – new petal disc brake design:

The petal disc design is found mostly in dirt bikes. TVS must have inherited the petal design from its racing bikes for its new apache 160cc RTR. New petal disc design brakes provides better cooling and warp resistance, reduces unsprung weight (they are lighter than traditional disc brake) and its wave shape helps in easy cleaning of the brake pads. All of these results in more efficient braking and hence increased stopping power of the Apache. This kind of disc’s design is a proved one and it is also seen in sports bikes such as Kawasaki Ninja ZX – 10 R. Yet, the efficiency of petal design in wet conditions is questionable, if solid disc is offered as optional as in major sports bike it will be a welcome offer.

Pricing and the launch:

The 150cc Apache is the cheapest in its category and hence TVS has the advantage of pricing the new Apache 160cc RTR against other manufacturer’s 150cc products. The new Apache 160cc RTR is expected to be priced around Rs60,000. TVS may launch the new Apache in May itself.
